What’s happening now:

With legislative session in full swing, the Alliance is proud to support a bill sponsored by  Representative Joe Fitzgibbon (D-34) that presents an effective, equitable way to put a price on carbon! House Bill 1646 will create jobs in communities across the state by investing in clean energy, clean water, and healthy forests to reduce carbon pollution and address the impacts of climate change. By targeting a share of investments to communities most burdened by pollution, climate threats, and poverty, the policy will spur an equitable shift to a clean energy economy. The bill creates an innovative, performance-based carbon tax that scales in response to progress in reducing emissions. Proceeds from the carbon tax will fund investments to reduce carbon pollution, create jobs, and support workers and households with lower incomes. Read a full overview of the policy here.

The Alliance for Jobs and Clean Energy has been hard at work for nearly two years conducting listening tours, engaging with people impacted by climate pollution, organizing with community partners, and learning from leaders. These efforts have culminated in a policy with input and support from a wide variety of stakeholders – representatives of communities of color and people with lower incomes, labor, environmental groups, faith communities, health professionals, advocates for women and families, and many more.

How you fit in:

Climate Justice Stewards are individuals from all our constituency groups – labor, environmental, communities of color, business, faith, health, parents and more – from all over the state who want to help move our work forward. You just need a passion for equitable climate action and a commitment to attend a training and help to mobilize at least 5-10 of your friends, colleagues, and neighbors to help the Alliance pass equitable climate policy in Washington State. Sign up today!

Many of the companies we work with want to become better stewards of the environment.
